York University is undergoing a major digital transformation of student systems at the same time as we are making efforts to mature the Data Governance model. One of the key places where these two initiatives intersect is the Data Cookbook. The Data Cookbook has served as a business glossary, a metadata repository and a place to store data models.

This presentation will describe our experience collecting metadata and using the cookbook, the strategies we employed, and the lessons we learned. The Data Cookbook will be used for demonstrations, but the focus will be on the process not the tool.
